Somali President receives credentials from UAE ambassador

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - The president of the federal republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mahamoud has received credential letters from the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Somalia during a high profile meeting at the presidential palace here in Mogadishu on Sunday.

Ambassador Mohamed Al-Othman who has been in the country for the past 12 months thanked the Somali president for accepting his credentials as the official UAE ambassador to the country.

“The United Arab Emirates is fully exited with the strengthening of the age-old and the already bilateral ties between both brother nations—the UAE is committed to playing a key role in the country’s reconstruction in the country”Ambassador Mohamed Al-Othman told a press conference at the presidential palace on Sunday.

He said that his government is now involved in more development and as well as humanitarian projects in different regions in the country pledging they will continue helping the needy Somali people.

Somali minister for foreign affairs and international cooperation Abdirahman Duale Beyle for his part said that the UAE and Somalia share long-existed public and diplomatic relations praising the Arab state for its commitment to helping Somalia in this very difficult period.

“The UAE ambassador has been in Mogadishu for the past year, but the president accepted his credentials today—since he arrived here ambassador Mohamed Al-Othman implemented more successful projects in the country” the foreign minister told a press conference.

“Ambassador Mohamed Al-Othman opened a new door for other international diplomats in the country, because he has been living in residential area amongst the ordinary Somali people while other ambassadors live in the heavily guarded Halane neighbourhood” the minister told the press conference at the presidential palace on Sunday.
