Wednesday, April 27, 2016

MOGADISHU -  Somalia lawmaker Aden Ibrahim Dhayow escaped death narrowly on Tuesday evening after gunmen who are believed to be Al-Shabaab militants attacked him in his Mogadishu house and injured five of his security guards.

The terrorist attack happened at the lawmaker's house in Hodan district in the capital Mogadishu where the perpetrators escaped from the scene after the attack.

"I survived the terror attack in my house when two Al-Shabaab militants dropped bombs into my house injuring five of my body guards. The guards have light and heavy wounds. The attackers escaped immediately after the incident," the lawmaker said on Wednesday.

Al-Shabab militants claimed responsibility for the attack against the lawmaker. The incident comes after another lawmaker, Abdifitah Nor Matan survived terrorist attack last week but three of his security guards were wounded in Beled-Hawo in Gedo region southwest Somalia.

Another lawmaker was killed in Mogadishu in March. The Tuesday evening attack comes hours after gunmen killed two men, a policeman and a businessman in two separate attacks in the capital on Tuesday.

The Africa Union peacekeeping backed by Somali security forces removed Al-Shabaab militants out of capital Mogadishu in 2011, but the militants still carry out attacks against government officials and AU bases in the country.
