THE Kenya Medical Research Institute has denied claims Zika virus has hit parts of Kenya.
Chief research officer in charge of the Centre for Virus Research Rosemary Sang said no case of the virus has been reported.
The virus, which has spread in South American countries, has prompted the World Health Organisation to declare it a global health emergency.
It is linked to cases of babies born with extraordinarily small heads, leading to incomplete brain development.
The condition is known as microcephaly.
Some doctors have described it as a “pandemic in progress”, and some nations have declared a state of emergency.
Sang was speaking yesterday on the sidelines of the sixth Kemri Annual Scientific and Health Conference at the Boma Hotel, Nairobi.
