A family that immigrated from Somalia to the Twin Cities in hopes of a better life is getting just that.

Marian Jama and Abdikani Ali left Somalia in 1993 and have been living in a two-bedroom home with their eight children, ages 7-19.

Now, Habitat for Humanity is building a home for the family on the north end of St. Paul. Organizers say the family's previous home had leaky ceilings, little closet space and flooded when it rained.
On Tuesday, a team of 15 women from Mortenson Construction helped with the project by working on the interior trim and other finishing work.

“We thank all of the volunteers so much,” Marian Jama said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more thankful to all the volunteers who are making our dream come true. Thank you and God bless you.”
