The film, to be shown Saturday at the Screens at the Continent, introduces viewers to Somali dress, food, holidays and language, said Aato, a native of Somalia.
"It's intended for anybody who has little knowledge of Somalis and who will maybe one day work with them," said Aato, who lives in Columbus. "It's for anyone who doesn't understand these people."
Columbus is home to an estimated 35,000 Somalis -- the second-largest Somali concentration in the United States.
The documentary includes footage of Somalis and other Columbus residents, including Mayor Michael B. Coleman.
With basic Somali-language phrases intended as icebreakers, Aato hopes that the film will foster friendships.
Aato -- who has directed seven other movies, including the documentary Somali Voices -- will discuss the work after the screening.
