The leader of Somalia Islamic courts union and re-liberation of Somalia group chairman Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed yesterday traveled to Cairo the capital of Egypt where he will be staying in that country for the coming days..
His visit came as a result of invitation that he received from the government of Egypt which is one of the governments that have shown keen interest in the affairs of Somalia although there are no official report from government of Egypt.
Another delegation from the Islamic courts led by the former speaker of the Somalia parliament is currently in Cairo and they have held introductory meetings with the Arab league and the government of Egypt.
An unconfirmed report states that Egypt which has invited the Islamic courts leaders is intending to mediate between the Somali federal government and the opposition in search of a lasting solution to the problems in Somalia.
Although there is concerted efforts to mediate between the two warring parties, the chairman of the Islamic courts Shiik Shariif Shiikh Ahmed demanded that for negotiations between the Islamic courts and the federal government to kick off there must be an immediate withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Somalia but that demand received an objection from the Prime Minister Nuur Cade who stated that negotiation should be held without any conditions. He clarified that the issue of withdrawal of the Ethiopian soldiers will only be discussed after the talks are launched.
Meanwhile the chairman of the Islamic courts during his stay in Egypt will be holding discussions with the Somalis residing in Egypt he will also deliver sermons at some of the universities in the country.
Many Somalis living in Somalia especially the residents of Mogadishu would like to see both warring parties to come together and negotiate and agree on how to move out of the current problems that they are currently facing which is never ending.
