Airport targeted with Somali president inside

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A spokesman for Somalia's president says Islamic insurgents fired mortars at the airport as the president was preparing to fly out.

 

Spokesman Hussein Mohamed Mohamud says no one was hurt in Thursday's attack.

 

He says President Abdullahi Yusuf was at the airport but had not yet boarded the plane when the mortars landed. He flew to Ethiopia later in the day.

 

Yusuf escaped unharmed earlier this month after a similar attack on the airport.
