![]() Friends and family of slain teen Mahamed Warsame hit the streets around Cougar Court to search for... |
Ayan Dahir is still too distraught to speak at length about her grief.
"My mind is somewhere else," she said, fighting tears outside 25 Cougar Ct. in Scarborough where her 16-year-old son was killed May 4.
And to make matters worse, the Grade 11 Winston Churchill student's killer or killers, who beat him to death in the 20-storey building's ninth-floor stairwell, are still at large.
"I want justice," she told the Sun earlier at her son's funeral. "I lost my son but I need justice ... if anybody can help me, please come forward."
It's not just the family who wants answers.
Toronto Police, too, are still actively trying to crack the murder -- what one veteran homicide detective called one of the worst he's ever seen.
Det. Wayne Banks said police have yet to see the building's video surveillance footage that might offer clues as to who killed Warsame.
"Because of the complex system that they have, it takes a while for us to be able to retrieve that information."
In the meantime, police are hopeful they will get some information from residents.
'MAY OPEN UP'
"This is somebody's son, brother, nephew, and it could be somebody in their family," Banks said. "We're hoping that if they wouldn't normally talk to the police ... they may open up."
Thursday night, police officers and dozens of members from the Somali community re-canvassed every resident, hoping to learn something.
Warsame's mother, who accompanied officers door-to-door, pleaded for help.
"Something happened in this building, and there are some people who (heard) something," Dahir told reporters before the search began. "I don't know what they heard, but please come forward."
