Prof Warsame Congratulated Abdikarim and his family

Prof. Hussein Warsame; Chair of the Accounting Area at the University of Calgary is a role model to aspiring Somali students through out the Diaspora. As an accomplished scholar and icon of Somali intellect; he was invited to be the keynote speaker for the Young Somali Professionals of North America's 4th Annual Retreat in Ottawa, Canada on the 29th and 30th of August. While attending the retreat, Prof Warsame found time on his busy schedule to visit the home of one of Ottawa’s brightest Somali students, Abdulkarim Ahmed.

Abdulkarim Ahmed serves as a shining beacon of hope for the Somali youth in Ottawa. In an area where violence and drugs have plagued the development of the Somali youth, he has stood above his fellow pupils and graduated from Ridgemont High School with an impressive 97% average.

Dr. Warsame visited the home of Abdulkarim and his parents in the cities southside. He praised Abdulkarim’s parents for their part in their childs academic upbringing. He also spoke with Abdulkarim and emphasized how proud he and the city of Ottawa is of his achievements. Dr. Warsame also made Abdulkarim’s inspirational story a focal point in many of his presentations. “Abdulkarim Ahmed is a role model for young somali students all over the world.” Dr. Warsame also encouraged Abdulkarim to continue on his path of academic excellence that he has already paved for himself during high school. He promised that he will be visiting Ottawa to follow his academic performance.

Abdulkarim began his undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa earlier this week.

When Hiiraan Online asked Dr. Warsame what message he had for other students, he replied “students should follow the example set by Abdulkarim and always look to be the best among their peers” Dr. Warsame also said that he will be continuing to give help and advice to all Somali students who are pursuing their education here in Canada.

He also thanked Hiiraan Online for creating a well established network for Somali’s worldwide.
