Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - At least five civilians have died and a dozen others have been wounded in a fierce fighting and shelling between Somali Government troops with their AMISOM allies and the Alshabab in Hodan and Howlwadag districts of Mogadishu Monday morning.

The sound of artillery fire could be heard in Hodan and Howlwadag, with the victims in the latest clashes being reported to have been hit by stray bullets in their own homes.

Fighting broke out Monday morning with heavy weapons being used by both sides and it is impossible to know any casualties as the warring sides remain silent on their losses and any new territory they may have captured or lost.

The latest clashes in Mogadishu come after similar ones in the same districts in the past few days which caused many people to lose their lives, wounding many more people and destroying a large number of residential buildings.

The situation is calm Monday morning but sporadic gunshots can still be heard in the affected districts although the road to The Bakara Market, which passes through Hodan and Howlwadag districts, is open for traffic as usual.
