ADEN, May 09 (Saba)- Secretary-General of Aden Local Council Abdul-Karim Shaif met on Monday with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Clair Bourgeois on the occasion of ending her tenure. At the meeting, Shaif praised efforts made by Claire during her tenure which lasted for years in the field of refugees affairs to improve their situation and life in Yemen, affirming Yemen's steady and ongoing position for UNHCR's efforts in order to create better conditions for refugees in Yemen.
For her part, Bourgeois praised the ongoing cooperation of Aden local authority in supporting Somali and Ethiopian refugees which enabled the UNHCR to carry out its duties easily.
She pointed out the increase of refugees' camps in Aden requires double efforts with Yemeni government to provide their needs.
On the other hand, Shaif discussed with representative of Swiss Agency of Geneva Richard Marta aspects of cooperation and humanitarian projects that the agency intends to implement them in a number of governorates, including Aden.
During the meeting, Shaif briefed Richard on the deal between government and Swiss Agency, representing opening an office in the capital Sana'a.
For his part, Richard pointed out that the Swiss Agency has allocated approximately $ 6 million to work in Yemen in which it will support activities of UNHCR, World Food Organization (WFO) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
He affirmed the Swiss Agency will continue supporting the UNHCR through
these budgets or via Swiss grants.
In return, Shaif valued the support made by Swiss agency for the refugees in Aden, praising the Swiss government's support in different fields in a number of governorate, including Aden.
