Education Management Trainees within the Ministry of Education, Galmudug State

The Ministry of Education, Galmudug State is introducing a major capacity development programme.  This programme is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by UNICEF, CfBT and Africa Educational Trust (AET).  Under this programme the Ministry of Education seeks to recruit five young professionals who will work in the Ministry attached to one of the following departments:

Planning; 
Finance and Administration;
Curriculum, Assessment and Supervision;
Gender; 
Human Resource Management and Development.

The five trainees (interns) will be expected to assist the Departments to develop and implement innovative and new approaches to reforming the education system and the organisational structure of the Ministry.  They will be trained as managers and administrators within the Ministry of Education, and will be expected to acquire more advanced skills and qualifications relevant to their roles in the Ministry over the two year duration of the internship.  The Ministry is committed to appointing successful trainees to management positions within the Ministry.

The trainees will work within the Ministry of Education and will report to their Department Director and to the Director General of Education.  They may be expected to travel widely within Galmudug State and beyond as part of their duties.  They will be supported by international consultants and will be expected to work with the consultant(s) and the Ministry staff to contribute effectively to the education reform process. 

The selected candidates may be offered, subject to applicable criteria, relevant post-graduate level professional development courses (leading to Masters Degree) offered by relevant institutions nationally.

Requirements for the trainee positions:

1.       First degree in Education or a closely related field acquired within the last 5 years;

2.       Fluent speaker of Somali and English  - with at least a working knowledge of Arabic;

3.       Proven ICT and report writing skills;

4.       Relevant education experience e.g. as teachers/administrators;

5.       A strong desire to engage in a career in the public sector both as manager/ administrator.
