Iran helps famine-stricken Somalia

Iran alongside other Muslim countries have come to help rescue the Somali people battling with an unprecedented deadly drought that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions others in Somali, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Iran has so far shipped the largest aid to the strife-torn nation that been wracked by war for more than two decades.

In October, Iranian Red crescent sent 5000 tone ship loaded with food aid, tents and medicine for the Somali internally displaced people.
Imam Khomeini Relief foundation, an Iranian non-government organization has officially opened up its offices in Mogadishu to assist the humanitarian efforts.
The Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation is among the initiatives initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in alleviating the suffering of the drought ravaged Somali people.

The head of Imam Khomeini foundation in ogadishu Mohammad Rezaeian told Press TV that Iranian people fully support the people of Somalia and endeavor to assist millions who are on the brink of starvation in the Horn of African country.

The head of the relief foundation also said Iranian Red Crescent and now the relief foundation were dispatched to Mogadishu following a call by the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution for humanitarian aids to the people of this drought-stricken country.

Iran now manages more than seven internally displaced camps in Mogadishu as well as aiding other camps. It has also provided free health services in a facility where 300 people are being treated on a daily basis.
