At least 14 Somali government soldiers have been killed and 25 others gravely injured by a land mine explosion targeting a military vehicle in the country's southwest, Press TV reports.
The roadside bomb explosion targeting a military vehicle of the transitional government troops took place on Thursday in the town of Luuq, the Press TV correspondent in Somalia's capital Mogadishu reported.
Somalia's military officer Diyal Abdi Kalil said that al-Shabab fighters were responsible for the explosion. He vowed to revenge on the al-Shabab for the deadly assault.
Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991 when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
The Somali government has struggled for years to restore security, but efforts have not yet yielded results in the country.
