Police kill three Al shabaab suspects in Lamu

Police shot three people suspected to be members of Al Shabaab terror group in Lamu.

Police said they recovered three AK 47 rifles, several bullets and two speedboats that the suspects were using in their operation in the Saturday morning clash that also saw two others escape.

According to Internal Security Permanent Secretary Francis Kimemia, the gunmen were spotted in Mvundeni area in Kiunga as they tried to cross to Kenya.

Police who were patroling the area challenged them to surrender but they refused to heed the order prompting†a shooting.

"Three died and our officers are pursuing the other two in Boni Forest where they have recovered the rifles and several bullets," said Kimemia.

After being attacked in the waters, the gunmen tried to run on foot towards Boni Forest where they were overpowered and gunned down.

Kimemia said patrols at the main border and ocean have been intensified to ensure the militants no longer attack Kenya and other ships in the waters.

Meanwhile police have circulated photographs of 15 men suspected to have links with Al Shabaab.

The men are said to have left Kismayu in Somalia and crossed the Kenyan border.

Police claim the men have information that can help in unraveling Al-Shabaab criminal activities.

"All the 15 left Kismayu recently headed for Kenya and some are believed to be already in the country," said police spokesman Eric Kiraithe.

Kiraithe said the group comprises of nine Kenyans, two Asians and four Somalis aged between 24 and 32.

He said the Kenyans suspects are known to have resided in Majengo area of Nairobi and Mombasa before leaving for Somalia about a year ago.

"If any of these people are in Kenya, they are advised to report to the nearest police station," he said.

This are the latest pictures released by police seeking public support in the war on terrorism in the country.

Security was beefed before the festive season following intelligence reports that Al shabaab were planning to attack Kenya.

Those whose pictures were released included Abdi Samadi, Abdi Samadi Wadud aka Asu,†Ali Hashim Muhogo, Amar, Athman Hamed Aka Asu, Baba Nawar, Bashir,Budalangi, Erico, Farhani Ayub, Jamadar, Juma Ayub,Man, Mwarabu, Ramadhan Kioko and Sufiyan.

Police also released another photograph of Natalie Faye†who they argued is using a forged passport.

She is believed to have crossed the Kenyan border from Tanzania through Lunga Lunga.

She entered Kenya through Lungalunga border crossing on February 26 and August 25 2011 through Namanga.

"She is believed to be in the country traveling in the company of her three children one girl and two boys. The girl is approximately ten years while the boys are about 8 and 5 respectively."
