Mogadishu (HOL) - The Cabinet Council was briefed on Thursday during its weekly meeting in Mogadishu by an advisory committee on preventing problems faced by auto-rickshaw operators. The committee said it presented a research study that made 18 recommendations for solving the issues faced by auto-rickshaw taxi drivers in Mogadishu. However, the media was not given any elaboration on the 18 points.

At least a dozen auto-rickshaw drivers in Mogadishu have been killed by security forces in the past year, leading to anti-government protests. Some of the perpetrators were tried by a military court and executed by a firing squad.

The Minister of Defense and Internal Security presented reports during the meeting about the general security situation in the country and operations against the Al-Shabaab group. On Tuesday, the Somali National Army (SNA) announced that it killed 30 Al-Shabaab militants and injured several others after a heavy fight in southern Somalia. The SNA Infantry Commander Mohamed Tahlil Bihi stated that the army, supported by pro-government militia Ma'awisley, repelled the militants during the operation.

The Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, called for more vigilance against problems planned by Al-Shabaab during the holy month of Ramadan.
