Government addresses security concerns for auto-rickshaw operators in Mogadishu – PM Barre

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali government has reiterated that it has successfully addressed the recurrent issues where security forces used to harm auto-rickshaw operators in Mogadishu.

    Speaking at an Iftar event in Kahda district on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Bare emphasized that the government had categorized auto-rickshaws into groups A and B, ending the conflicts between security forces and auto-rickshaw operators.

    Barre praised the people of Kahda district for their cooperation with the government and their contribution to its development.

    "The residents of Kahda district are people of faith and morals, and it is not expected that drugs, narcotics, or al-Shabab would spread here. Such issues are typically found in places lacking education, whereas Kahda is a place where scholars gather to study the Quran. My last visit to Kahda was in 2019, and it is even more beautiful today," said Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre.

    In the past, there have been instances where security forces in Mogadishu have killed dozens of auto-rickshaw operators following disputes with army personnel on the streets. These incidents sparked public outrage against the government.

    However, the federal government has pledged to enhance security measures against al-Shabab and drugs during Ramadan in Mogadishu.
