Garowe (HOL) - Puntland security forces have arrested five suspected al-Shabaab members and seized their equipment at the northern checkpoint of Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland State.
The Nugaal Regional CID department stated on Sunday that the arrested people and their equipment were en route to the mountains of the Eastern Region, where ISIS reportedly has military bases.
Security agencies also noted that the suspects were from the southern part of the country but did not specify when the five individuals were apprehended.
The arrested people are as follows:
1. Faisa Ali Mohamed
2. Abdi Ahmed Osman
3. Hadi Omar Elmi
4. Abdi Mohamud Ali
5. Salah Abdulkadir Mahad
On Thursday, the Puntland military court in Bosaso sentenced nine suspects, including six Moroccan nationals and one Ethiopian man, to different penalties. The six Moroccan nationals were sentenced to death on terrorism charges, while the Ethiopian man received a 10-year jail term.
