Mogadishu (HOL) — Security forces in Mogadishu's Deniile district have arrested members of the Al-Shabaab militant group following the murder of traditional elder Abdi Hassan Muhidin, authorities reported. The murder occurred on Sunday evening when Al-Shabaab operatives launched an attack on the residence of a local peacekeeper, resulting in the death of a security guard and the elder, a respected figure in the community.
Officials disclosed that in response to the assault, district security personnel detained two individuals linked to the deadly attack, while a third suspect was found dead. The motive behind the targeted killing of Abdi Hassan, a prominent peacekeeper, remains unclear as investigations continue.
The attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Mogadishu, where Al-Shabaab militants continue to pose a significant threat despite being pushed out of the city over a decade ago. The Somali government has pledged to intensify its efforts against the insurgent group in the wake of this latest violence.
