U.S. airstrike kills two al-Shabab members near Kismayo town

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The U.S. military command in Africa has said that it conducted an airstrike in Jubbaland State, killing two al-Shabab militants.

    In a press statement released on Monday, AFRICOM stated that the self-defense airstrike took place on Mar. 2 in a remote area approximately 45 km northeast of Kismayo.

    “The initial post-strike assessment indicates that the U.S. airstrike killed two al Shabaab terrorists and that no civilians were harmed,” the statement added.

    This new airstrike follows shortly after the country’s Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Adala, announced that at least 50 al-Shabab militants had been killed, with 20 others captured alive in the fourth consecutive day of military operations conducted by the Somali army forces in the Lower Jubba region.
