Cairo (HOL) - The Acting Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohammed Omar, met with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu Al-Ghait, in Cairo on Tuesday.
They discussed promoting cooperation, supporting Somalia's position in protecting its sovereignty against external threats, and addressing geopolitical challenges.
The meeting, which coincided with the day before the ministerial sessions of the University Council in its regular session (1961), emphasized the urgent need to provide immediate support to Somalia.
Abu Al-Ghait reaffirmed the Arab League's support for Somalia and its clear position in solidarity with the country's efforts to defend its sovereignty. He denounced the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland on January 1 in Addis Ababa, explaining the Arab League's stance of rejecting any actions that would undermine Somalia's unity.
Somalia asserts that the agreement has violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity and has appealed for international support.
