NAIROBI, Kenya (HOL) — A Somali national, Mohamed Liban Aden, was charged in Nairobi for illegally being in Kenya and possessing an offensive weapon, with authorities linking him to a string of violent robberies in the Eastleigh area.

Aden, who appeared before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Wambua Mutua, denied the charges. He was found armed with a knife on September 20, 2024, in Eastleigh’s Jamstreet, Nairobi. Police claimed Aden was armed with the intent to commit a violent robbery.

In addition to the weapons charge, Aden was accused of being in Kenya unlawfully without a valid visa or pass, contravening the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act of 2011. He was released on bond set at KSh50,000 (USD 387.39) or an alternative cash bail of KSh30,000 (USD 232.43). His case is scheduled for mention on October 23, with the hearing set for April 24, 2025.

Police reports tied Aden and his gang to multiple robbery and stabbing incidents in Eastleigh. His three accomplices were reportedly killed in police operations, while Aden managed to flee to Uganda before returning to Kenya.

Authorities have since increased security operations in Eastleigh, responding to rising incidents of robberies and related crimes.
