Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said on Friday that its forces killed at least 13 members of the al-Shabaab militant group during coordinated military operations in the Middle Shabelle region.
In a statement, the agency confirmed that several senior al-Shabaab commanders were among those killed during the early-morning raids.
In the first operation, carried out in the village of Raage Elle, four militants were killed. The second strike, which targeted the areas of Hawala-Kulan and Reydableey, resulted in the deaths of five more. A third operation in the town of El-Baraf eliminated an additional four fighters, the statement said.
Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency against the Somali government for more than 16 years, routinely launches attacks on military personnel and government officials across the country.
