Mogadishu (HOL) — The National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, originally scheduled to open Thursday in Mogadishu, has been postponed to Monday, May 5, following consultations among national leaders.
A statement from the Office of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said the decision was unanimous among leaders, though it provided no further explanation for the delay.
Earlier this month, Puntland reaffirmed its decision to boycott the talks, accusing the federal government of deviating from constitutional norms and demanding a return to the rule of law.
The postponement comes amid mounting pressure from international partners, who have urged Somali leaders to urgently convene and resolve key issues. Donor states have called for clear and unified decisions on political, constitutional, and electoral reforms to enable increased international support and coordination.
The NCC is Somalia’s highest-level political forum, bringing together the federal leadership and member state presidents to chart the country’s path forward on governance, elections, and security.
