Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday officially inaugurated the new headquarters of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was attended by senior federal government officials, including Interior Minister Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, Cabinet ministers, members of both houses of Parliament, ambassadors, representatives of international partners and members of the public.
The Ministry of Interior had operated from temporary premises for years since the beginning of the Third Republic.
The new headquarters is intended to strengthen the ministry’s capacity to carry out its responsibilities, including federal affairs, reconciliation, local governance and public service delivery.
During the same event, President Hassan Sheikh also laid the foundation stone for a new headquarters for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
Officials said the planned building will include modern offices, meeting and training halls and green spaces designed to promote environmental conservation.
The new facility is expected to strengthen the ministry’s ability to protect the environment, respond to climate change and coordinate with national and international partners.
The projects come as Somalia continues efforts to restore key government institutions and expand public services after decades of conflict and institutional collapse.
