Arusha (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Arusha on Saturday to attend the 25th Annual Summit of the East African Community (EAC), as Somalia deepens its engagement within the regional bloc.
The summit brings together heads of state and senior officials from EAC member countries to discuss economic integration, security cooperation and political coordination across East Africa.
On the sidelines of the summit, the president is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with fellow heads of state and regional leaders. The discussions are expected to center on strengthening partnerships and advancing shared priorities under the EAC framework.
The annual summit will deliberate on key regional issues, including expanding intra-regional trade, improving security coordination, enhancing infrastructure connectivity and reinforcing political collaboration among member states.
Somalia formally joined the East African Community in 2023, marking a significant step in its post-conflict reintegration into regional economic and political structures. Participation in the summit underscores Mogadishu’s effort to position itself as an active contributor to East Africa’s collective stability and development agenda.
