Bosaso (HOL) — Puntland authorities on Wednesday announced that legal action will be taken against anyone caught possessing, importing, selling or using illegal weapons within the regional state’s territory.
The decision followed a security meeting in Bosaso chaired by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, which focused on the security situation in Bari region and measures to control illegal weapons.
Authorities said any illegal weapons seized during security operations will be confiscated by the government.
The measure also applies to people found importing, trading or using illegal weapons in Puntland, with officials warning that violators will face legal action.
The decision comes as Puntland seeks to reduce the spread of illegal arms and address threats to public security, including clan conflicts and general insecurity.
The meeting also decided that weapons used in inter-clan conflicts will be confiscated.
Authorities said anyone involved in organizing or inciting clan violence will also face legal action.
