MOGADISHU (HOL) - Jalalqsi town mayor Mohamed Nur has escaped an attack on his residence after unknown assailants hurled granades.
Police in the central Somalia town said the mayor was not in the house at the time of the incident adding there no casualties.
According to the police, the attackers hurled several grenades into the house in what they said was aimed at harming the mayor.
The mayor has not yet commented on the attack.
The incident came amid a clash between security forces in the town and Al-Shabaab militants who stormed a police station. Police said they killed two militants and recovered AK-47 riffles.
Security forces went on hot pursuit for the militants in the early houses of Monday, police said.
Al-Shabaab has on several occassions mounted attacks on government installations but has also come under intense offensives from Somali and allied forces.
