Mogadishu (HOL) - Galmudug Darwish forces have conducted operations against the Al-Shabaab group in several villages in the Mudug region over the past few days. The operations occurred in Qeycad, Jiic Dheere, Las Gacamey, and Ilbalac in the Mudug region.
Galmudug army officers led the operation, stating that the goal was to ensure the security of the Mudug region while clearing the remaining areas in the region of the Al-Shabaab group. They also stated that operations to ensure the region's security will continue until all areas are free of Al-Shabaab.
Anti-Al-Shabaab operations are ongoing in Mudug region areas and districts, while the Somali government plans to launch the second phase of operations to rid the country of the Al-Shabaab organization.
The Somali government has reported that government-led military operations against Al-Shabaab, which began in several regions in August 2022, have resulted in the deaths of at least 3,000 Al-Shabaab militants, with another 3,700 injured.
According to a Defense Ministry report, the Somali National Forces, with the support of the locals, have liberated about 70 towns and villages from Al-Shabaab's control.
