Uganda’s task in Somalia is a big sacrifice

I just finished reading Mr Bernard Tabaire’s column in the Saturday Monitor on Uganda’s role in Somalia. I agree with his premise that there needs to be a basic change in policy and implementation on the part of the AU and how Amisom engages the anarchists forces in Somalia.

However, at the same time, it is hugely important to understand the nature of the enemy and dimension of the war. Uganda and the Ugandan people (and indeed Africans at large) have a moral duty to ensure that religious radicalism and religious tyranny does not penetrate Africa and that the Somali people are not left alone to fight this menacing and destructive enemy.

It is important to hail the bold decisions taken by Uganda in defending Africa from the neo-colonialism that threatens to subjugate our people in the name of religion; and I extend my heart-felt gratitude to the help and sacrifices Uganda is making in my country of Somalia. Uganda has been an able friend of Somalia in our hour of need.
