Mogadishu University is the leading university in Somalia. It carries the name and the symbol of the national capital city and was incessantly operating sine 1997. So far, MU had offered BA and BSc to 8 patches from its 7 faculties and 22 specializations. Today is a happy moment for MU to be able to outreach other regions and to inaugurate its first branch in Puntland Regional State of Somalia. This audacious resolution was taken a year ago by the Board of Trustees while the administration of the university is very proud to be able to accomplish this mission in such a short time.

This branch will educate and nurture creative generations committed to peace, good governance and national cultural values. They will be leading business and social sectors and improve the capacity of the public sector in Puntland and beyond. Moreover, this branch will enhance interactions between Somali intellectuals, encourage the return of the Diaspora and instill hope for those yearning for quality education.

Opening this branch coincides with difficult times in which peace and livelihood in most regions of Somalia are in disarray. However, we strongly believe that the source of all evil in Somalia is lack of education and as a result, MU has been focusing to remedy this with resilience and perseverance. MU remains determined to keep on educating generations against all odds as it has proven that these challenges could be conquered with strong resolve and teamwork.

Finally, we extend our gratitude to the President of Puntland and Minister of Education who have offered unforgettable support and encouragement.   Moreover, Tadamun Social Society deserves our thanks and gratitude for its continuous support and partnership. We also thank Puntland intellectuals, civil society organizations, Islamic scholars, traditional elders and the people of Puntland at large for their generous reception and endorsement. Finally, we express our appreciation to all institutions and individuals who assisted us in executing this challenging mission.

Mr. Adam Ahmed Hussein
